I read somewhere that the underside of the mudguard should be or can be painted with some sort of protective paint.
Can anyone advise please.

hammerite eventually peels, i wouldnt use it myself, i speaking from 35 years experience in the decorating trade. use car body underseal and it will stay on.

I use stone chip flexible paint. If you want to paint it silver afterwards up to you.

its just called underseal Wayne, any car parts/accessories place sell it but be aware that halfords are about the dearest place to go. Down here we have mill auto's and a few others that are reasonably priced but as to where to go its up to you and where you live. i used motor world when i lived in the midlands but that was 20 years ago.
