hi just about completed putting my carbs back together. Still need to get a replacement choke tube.
Also
got a carb kit from Keyster which comes with the needle jet which is item 45 on the parts list. I don't recall this being removed when I stripped down the carbs!!
does it simply slide over the jet needle 16 before the needle jet holder is screwed back in place????
Carbs are Mikuni VM26 SS

The needle jet is a light press fit in the carb body and needs a carefull light tap downwards from the venturi side to free it and the same procedure from the float side to refit
It is held firmly in place when the emulsion tube is screwed up.

Ok I sort of understand but some of the names you are giving the parts are new to me ie emulsion tube! is this the needle jet holder?

the jet itself is brass and has a flange a 3rd of the way up the shank so which way up does it go?

sorry to be a pain but I wont to get it right.

Thanks

if you look at the jet it has a slight chamfer on one end this faces the jet needle holder

Yes! Emulsion tube = jet holder.
The jet is stepped and the smallest diameter (like a brass tube) sits in the carb body and protrudes slightly in to the venturi (carb bore).
As z1bman points out the widest end of the jet has a slight taper on it and the needle jet holder butts up against this to keep the jet seated in the carb body.

thanks guys I'm getting the picture. I will take a look at the carbs tonight. I'm guessing this can be installed from the float chamber and no need to remove tops.

I recon the originals must be still in there. if that's the case I will have to knock them out from the top.

If anyone has any pictures I would really appreciate it.

Done these on mine knocked out from the top, and carefully replace just run around the top edge with a fine piece of wet and dry it takes off the sharp edge and stops the alloy being cut, piece of cake to do

spray some wd 40 into the jets. back of the tick over screw + snap open the throttle a couple of times + they might just fall out if they are not too bunged up ?
