Hi, how easy is it to fit a ZXR 1100 front end to a ELR frame,

It should not be too hard--i have fitted a Zephyr 750 front end onto one of my Z1000A2's

the way i went about it was to measure the following items:-

1) the internal diameter of the recess for the top and bottom bearings when they are fitted in the steering head.
2)measure the depth of the recess also so you dont get bearings that are too thick
3) measure the effective steering stem length from your ELR between the bearings
4)measure the dia of the stem at the bearing seat location at top and bottom of the stem

having got the dims noted, i then went to my local bike shop (well went to Pitstop in Lowton near Leigh-- not exactly local but recommended by Z-power and good guys) with a sketch of what i had "before" and "planned" and Tony went through his bearings catalogue and found bearings that fitted the sizes i wanted and then they were ordered up and delivered a couple of days later.

then fit bearings and yolsk and the rest is easy (ish)

i hope i haven't missed anything out

oh!--one thing i dont know if i was just lucky or what but the steering security lock stops on the Z1000 frame matches the steering lock stops on the bottom yolk of the zephyr--lucky or what?? you might have to fabricate your own lock stops but you might get lucky too.

Good advice there
If that ain't gonna work, you could get hold of a cheapo standard bottom yoke for the ELR frame, then you can use the stem and maybe able to get the ZXR yoke top + bottoms adapted to fit
I've got GSXR USD forks on me Z1000A2, but done the easy (expensive) route.
A set of 1-off billet yokes made up. You'll be looking at a minimum of ?450 if u can find a local engineers

there is a set of forks and yolks for a ZRX1100 on flea bya at present

they are in Wigan

worth a bid by you ----they havent got any one interesetd yet by the look of things

Hi gents, I have been away on a course, so have missed the forks, although there are a set of yolks, which I have my beady eye on at the moment.

i fitted a zrx front end to my z1100r a few years ago.
zrx yokes fitted with no mods other than cutting off the steering lock bracket on the headstock,bearings are the same and stem height is perfect
i used zrx12 yokes, with zrx11 forks,zx7r wheel(same as zrx),zx9 discs.310mm and nissan 4 pots from a j,k,l,m 750/1100 gsxr
all just bolts on easy.

Its nicely done. Thinking about going the same route with mine. Do the flat slide mikunis cause any running problems?

Hi, cheers for the info, I am picking up a ZRX 1100 front end tomorrow and I should have the yolks by next weekend. The swinger is away getting a spacer machined and fitted. As soon as I have them fitted, I will start posting the pics in the Project section.

i have 34mm flatslides
they were a bit rich to begin with
but that could have been me getting used to accelerater pumps
power is good, no flatspots,not had it on a dyno
but with standard carbs it was putting out 96bhp
at the back wheel,and i feels more than that now
sound good too
not used it much in the last couple of years
been sidetracked with a zx7
and now my marriage is up the creek
life is a bit complicated at the mo
