1000J Fuel tap repair kit

Just so I don't have any trouble with the newly built Lawson replica, I want to fit a new fuel tap kit.

All the kits I've seen on Wemoto, eBay, Z-Power etc. don't match what I need :??

Here is a pic of my fuel tap off my 1983 Z1000J2.
You can see that the "gasket" (as Kawasaki call it, round disc below the diaphragm) has 1 hole in the middle and 4 around the outside.

Here is a pic of the one Z-Power and every other shop sell. Quite clearly this is different, with no hole in the middle and 5 around the outside!

Has anyone come across this problem before and where the hell do I get the correct kit from :?:

Thanks, Will

Hi Will

Had a look in my Kawasaki manual and found illustrated breakdowns of two different fuel taps, ( its picture 6-11 if you have a manual )

Variation 1
listed as kz/z1000-j shows the one with the five holes around the outside ,

Variation 2
looks to be like you want with the hole in the centre -- this is listed as kz/z1000-K and M models

( i THINK these are the `Ltd custom` types - i`m sure someone will correct me if i`m wrong !!)

Have you tried NRP in Manchester ? , i`ve always found them very helpful.

Hope this helps

Have you tried NRP (carb specialists) Manchester?

or an alternatively you could fit a Pingel tap (few quid tho') and have piece of mind.

Cheers SP, I only have the 1000J IPC so I can't tell if it's the one I need or not.
If you are 100% sure that i need the K or M model kit, then I'll place an order.
Sorry to ask, I'm not judging your excellent knowledge, but just want to be sure before placing an order.
Many thanks, Will

If you need the 4 hole type, just order a GS750E fuel tap gasket from any Suzuki dealer. they are the same as the Kawasaki and still available as an OE part.

Part number is 44341-33150 They are are well under a fiver  (about 3 quid rings a bell) I have one in my Kawasaki vac tap.

If you cant get one - I likely have a spare somewhere.

Will if you can hold on for a day or so I intend to overhaul mine (k/ltd model) so we can compare. I hope to strip it tomorrow and can take photos if that's any help.

Firstly Charlie - Thank you very much for your kind offer but I wouldn't want to take your spare. After all, I would rather have a complete tap kit
Thanks for the heads up on the Suzuki GS tap though, it's good to know.

Redbeard - Yes no probs mate, it's kinda strange why my UK spec Z1000J2 would have a Ltd tap fitted though.
The tap itself as can be seen by the pics above, is just your normal vac tap - vacuum stub on the rear facing forwards and the single main fuel supply stub facing inwards.
You can email me direct at barbers@rowanhouse1.demon.co.uk
Thanks, Will
