kick start rubber.

Today im removing the kick start to get it rechromed. i tried this last year and couldnt get the rubber off. (admittadly i was short of time and wanting tide it so i put it back on!)
Its been on 35 years and is solid tight. so other than buy a new one and saw it off...........................................anytips greatfully accepted

leave it in very hot water for 5 mins, then smear Vaseline on and it will slide off.

not sure if this will apply, but had some zinc plating done a while ago. It was just a big box of bits. When I got them back I noticed some rubber parts in the box. standard brake pipes and gear linkage with the rubber boots still on they came back like new (you could even see the printing on the lines). I asked the guy and he said the cleaning acids and other chemicals does not touch the rubber. Hope this helps

Followed Mick 's advice "eh viola " it's off then cleaned it in vinegar for an hour looks good
