Engine Rebuild

Has anyone built their engine inside the frame so from the sump up? If so how was it?
Saves havering to lift the lump in after it's built.

If you're going to rebuild a motor -
do it properly on a bench - then when done, lay motor on its side and lower the naked frame over it

Yeh I've seen that and looks the better option. Just wanted to try a different approach.
Is there any reason why it won't work?

you can build the bottom half of the engine including the sump but leave the generator + the cover of until the engine is in the frame

I've never tried putting an engine in a Human skeleton myself
Have you dismantled your engine fully yet Wayne?
From what I've done to my KZ1000 engine so far,
dismantling it I've thoroughly enjoyed it!
Snail pace at the moment because of home duties,
but I'll get it all done with a big help from my friends

This is the way i do all mine . Build up he bottem end minus all side covers .. Lift the frame onto the engine and secure it with the mounts sit it upright and bolt the top end end on followed by the side covers seems the easiest and logical proceedure, but somebody will tell you its the wrong way , bottom line is, do it however way you can manage that makes it easy

I usually build them up on the bench then lay them on their side and drop the frame over but with the café racer i had to fit the bottom end first as everything is so tight the complete lump won't go it in one piece.
Nothing wrong with either method, it's the final result that counts.

Ok I'm might just try to be different! Jay yes totally stripped and all with Steve Smethurst. He has just finished polishing and hope to get stuff back next week. I'll post some pics when I work out how to!
And Jay loving every minute. Just got refurbished clocks back from Al Marshall. Wow he knows his trade. They look brand new but my original clocks and mileage.

Bottom end + barrels for me. I find it's much easier to deal with those piston rings without a load of frame tubes in the way, then as others say, on it's side and 'frame over'.
But this really should be in 'Bike help', so that's where I've moved it!
