I’ve just got hold of a set of Marzocchi Strada shock for my Z1R. They are in fairly good condition but I’d like to get them rebuilt. Can you still get the bits to rebuild them with or is it best to go to a suspension specialist? While I’m on, does anyone know what sort range of air pressure should be put into these shocks?

Fred - They are easy enough to overhaul.
The kits are about £32 delivered from Marzocchi UK.
I also have decals for the tops and sides so let me know if you want some.

Ah, this is great stuff. I'll download the manual, get a refurb kit and get going.

They are easy enough to overhaul IF you can get the reservoir caps off....they can be a real bitch to remove if they are corroded in place.

there is a guy who can sort them, he did a set for me full rebuild, new stainless steel rods (instead of chromed ones) etc very good job pm if your are interested

Fred, don't send them off... give it a go yourself.
Personally I find them a piece of piss to overhaul and they all came apart very easy.!

Thanks for the PM, I'll get new decals once I have a service kit in my hands. The link to buy service kits that was posted up doesn't work any more so I've placed an order with an independent retailer.... no reply back yet though. They seem to be a little tricky to get hold of. As a shock service is £55 per shock + parts, I think I will have a go myself. Its give me a chance to repaint the shock bodies too.

I had my Strada's springs and bodies powder coated at Triple S in Bingley - it's a bit more durable than paint ;)

What Charlie said about getting the air reservoir tops out is true.
I was lucky enough to have a spare knackered set that I drilled apart to save the caps and drilled the old caps out of my good bodies.
I have had a thread chaser made to clean the threads up if need be.

It certainly is..... I managed to rebuild just 4 shocks from 8 or 9 donor units.

One cap I had to drill and completely collapse as it would not move, even when drilled out and 10mm bolts inserted to get leverage. The bolts were bending and I was fearful the reservoir was gonna split

750Steve had major problems getting the caps out of his Strada's too.

Heat helps, but if they have chemically welded themselves in place through corrosion, they are a 'mare to remove.

I think he did the last ones for a £100, the guy used to work for ohlins and did a top job
