I.m confused, new aftermarket rings for Z1000 70mm, both are marked top, one is shiney no inside or outside bevel, other is black/blue with inside bevel and marked top on bevel side.
So does ring with inside bevel (facing up as marked top) go on top groove or second.

My understanding is shiney ring is always top ring, also inside bevel is always top ring as to promote positive twist. (when marked top)
Yet the Clymer manual shows inside bevel facing up on 2nd groove, under 1000 in pic centre left.

Chrome ring is the top one .
Plain iron one is the second.

Yes, shiny ring on top.
The ring with the bevel/step on the inside goes bevel/step side facing upwards.
A note.. Some early zeds (72/73) had the bevel facing downwards (gen kawa rings only) which threw a lot of zed enthusiasts into total confusion. Nowadays even rings for those early zeds that are not genuine nos should also be fitted with the bevel facing upwards.

Above is answer to the bit that threw me, always thought inside bevel faced down on second ring.
