No Kick Start

Hi all,

Apologies but I'm fairly new to bikes and haven't much technical ability so sorry if this sounds like a stupid question.

The kick start on my Z1 has no resistance - it just swings on through.

I have a Sukuki SP370 and it nearly breaks my foot try to kick through.

Any idea what is wrong with the Z1.

Thanks.

Hi there - it doesn't do anything it just swings through.

I have kicked over 125's with more difficulty.

Thanks.

sounds like there is no gear the other end but that's just weird. Yuo'll need to get at the shaft to look by the sounds of it.

the bad news is you can't get the shaft out without splitting the engine.

a winter job - ride it until it gets too cold.

i assume (hope) the electric boot is working fine......

i have some kickstart shafts in my spares boxes.

Make sure you're not holding the clutch lever in and disengaging the plates.

Thanks guys - that's great advice and much apprciated.

I'll have a play at the weekend. It may well be me getting used to the bike rather than the bike itself.

I only picked it up last weekend.

Thanks again for your help.

I'm sure I'm going to need heaps more over the coming weeks.

Cheers,

David.

As Streetfighterkz says - if the clutch is dis-engaged the kick start won't turn the engine

PS...when I first had my z900 in the 70s I used to win pints down the pup by betting the Brit contingent that I couldn't start the bike by hand with the kick start...it does turn over easily but you should feel the difference on the compression strokes.

Also, it would be worth checking if the spring may be
worn out or broken

If you take the sump plate off and have a look you can see the kickstart gear from underneath
