Static timing a Dyna S ignition

Just looking for a bit of advice on this dyna s ignition, according to the instructions when timing the engine statically it says connect a 12v test light from the junction of the black coil wires to ground. My black coil wires do not join at any junction they go separately to the ignition modules on the dyna s plate ?? Am i being stupid here, do i just connect test light to both coil wires & other end to earth ?? & with regard to advancing the rotor do i just turn it with my fingers whilst rotating the engine

she sounds spot on now at idle & at 3-4000rpm but suppose the only way to tell is take it out for a run
thanks, Paul.

Chrisu, how about a "link" to your posting.
I am interested in what you had to say!

you must use the black + the green wires that go directly to the coils to do this test + yes you must turn the advancer fully clockwise with your fingers whilst turning the crankshaft to check it statically

Thanks Z1bman, I wanted to check out what Chrisu has to say about that facet of the static adjustment.
To my mind, by adjusting with the rotor falsely moved to the advanced position, I can't understand why it wouldn't effect the timing at idle.
I always check dynamically with a timing light and have always disliked that static method.

thought i'd set it up right, should have put the instructions that came with the kit in the bin first, read christu's post a few times & did it again his way & now its running much better

the instructions are a bit misleading to some. you either follow one procedure or the other i/e static if you don't have a strobe light this is why you have to hold the cam in the full advance position. if you have a strobe light skip to the strobe light section of the timing instructions
