Monsoon proof leads ?

On yesterday's ride out, when the monsoon broke over us on the top of Mendip, the Beast (Z1300) started misfiring a bit. Given I have only recently replaced the ignition coils for Dyna coils and the previous stock(ish) coils were fine in standard English summer weather, I can only conclude that the uber expensive 'Dyna wires' are the pain in the arse.

Are Taylor leads any better in the rain and, if so, from where can said leads be best purchased, bearing in mind I'm skint and the sod will want six :shock:

A geezer on ebay sells 'em for £9.99 each,
postage is £3.25 for one, then 25p each thereafter,
to which I calculated a rounded up figure of
£64.50

There's that other recommended ebayer called
Grumpy who deals with old air cooled monster era
parts, he sells Dyna stuff, so more than likely
sells Taylor leads, but ain't got a link to his shop.

I think "Grumpy" is Gary hurd from peterborough. He helps out with Practical sportsbikes magazine, and runs his own parts /tuning firm. Met him a few times and seems nice enough chap, give him a try. 07774 924067.

Ralph if its a real "monsoon" I doubt any are perfick! water will find its way in.
I replaced my Dyna wires (which were admittadly old but didnt like the damp!) with taylor leads and have not had a problem....................................not ridden in a monsoon yet though!

Got Taylor leads on mine and had no problems ever ,even a 350 mile trip back from Scotland in torrential rain didn't produce a pop or fart from the ignition.
Bought mine from Holeshot Racing many years ago.

I have Dyna leads and coils and have no bother at all ....

That said, I did put a small amount of clear silicone sealer inside the caps to keep water out when I fitted 'em to the leads. I do also spray WD40 inside the caps if I need to take em off for any reason.

With the sort of rain we have seen this weekend, anything would misfire..... my bikes got flooded and they were parked in the damned garage :lol:

+3 on the Dyna coils & leads.

Rode back from Hull (after the Z40 German Rally) last year in MONSOON weather.... a good 200 miles in pissing-down rain - Me Z1000 ran superb - apart from the following day when it was backfiring....... which turned out to be a teaspoonful of water in each float bowl (K&N's :roll: )
And on the 7th day... Zeds were created!

get some car leads from scrappers - free, you only want the ends, new copper connectors and a big long length of taylor lead - I bought some from a guy advertising on EBay Motors, make yourself a crimping tool to use in the vice and make your own.
