I been asked by a friend who is about to embark on a restoration of a Z1A.
He wants, as most of us want, the finished product to look just like it came out of the show room.
He's undecided whether to buy new rims, if the condition of his original rims will not be good enough to re-chrome, hence, loosing his date codes.
I told him of the availability of new DID rims. I said they have the slight difference in that they have the marking on the side of the rim, which I don't mind, but some purist don't like. He then asked "Did original Z1 series rims ever come out with DID rims".
I said I thought the DID rims were on some of the Z's, however, they were mostly "Takasago".
I have seen 40 spoke DID rims on the early bike scene and have actually fitted one to a Z!B back in 1994.
My query to this forum is ....Did the Z1-series ever come out with DID rims as new?
Note... I have posted this to other forum and so far no one can recall ever seeing DID rims on a new Z1.... [Thanks Z2john & Rob]

I'm no expert so this info could be worth worth exactly what you paid - nothing! I have never seen DID rims fitted from new. Takasago wheels with the correct date codes are essential in trying to replicate originality IMHO.
Inheritance? What inheritance? He spent it all on booze, women and Zed parts!
