Helicoil Kit

#1 PostAuthor: Muddychris » Sun Sep 23, 2007 4:09 pm

Hi
I'm in the process of bolting down the camshaft caps. When i took the caps off initially one of the bolts was loose. It seems that the threads were stripped before i arrived.

The bolt is a 10mm. I want to buy a helicoil kit to repair the thread but i'm unsure which kit too buy.

Looking on ebay you can get m4 m5 and several others. Which one do i need to buy?

Cheers

Chris
Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

Helicoils

Hi Chris, the camshaft cap bolts are 10 mm spanner size but they are 6 mm thread size, so you need to get yourself a 6mm helicoil kit. At the risk of stating the obvious be careful not to get any tapping swarf in the top end of your motor when helicoiling the thread.
In the past when I have helicoiled cam cap bolts in situ I have found it useful to put a piece of kitchen tin foil around the bolt area and smear the foil with grease to catch any bits . Then bin the foil / grease and bits when finished.
cheers Phil
It's not broke , just in bit's for a while !
