I need some Z900 advice guys.

How easy is it to clean the standard air filter?
When the Haynes manual says you can clean it with petrol, does that mean for oily deposits, or just general dirt?
Or is it just better to get a new one?

Also, what is the other filter type thing in the circular plastic container that fits next to the filter box, where the air is drawn through?
Does that have to be cleaned?

I saw that Z1 Enterprises in the States recommend a K&N performance air filter that fits in the standard air box....anybody using one of these and are they ok?

stick with the standard filter k&n's are a piss on you need to look after them which nobody does. just use a air line to blow the filter out, remember to blow from the inside out (off the bike)

Kerrigan, part of your question "what is the other filter type thing in the circular plastic container that fits next to the filter box, where the air is drawn through?"

That item is a silencer, it is usually missing and it isn't really missed! That filter like internal lining, you see, is just insulation to quiten the sucking noise at the inlet.

Thanks chaps, I'll get the filter out and take it up to the local petrol station air line.
