What's the verdict on these? I've heard some folk say that they can cause oil blow back on a major scale, others say they have had no problems.

I'm about to fit one and was just going to use it with a small K&N breather.

Any talk of having to fit a catchment tank will put me off as all I want is a neat, cheap and tidy solution to clear my VM29 Smoothbores running oval K&N's.

At present I need to use a long extension pipe to mount the small K&N breather but it's a bit Heath Robinson and not very tidy

I fitted a low profile APE breather/cover and K&N filter and there was oil everywhere. My bike has just undergone a major overhaul at Debben and they have fitted a catch tank behind the battery fed by a stainless braided oil cooler hose from the low profile breather. By all means give it a go but I think you will find that you have oil all over the top of the crankcase. Incidentally all the Sanctuary bikes in Japan seem to have remote oil catch tanks. Have a look at my blog if you want to see some pics.

If you want it to look tidy, then a low profile breather and a carefully routed hose to a remote tank or filter should do the trick. You could always have a 45 or 90 degree bend where the hose connects to the breather so that it is less visible from the side.

On the Harris i just used some braided hose to extend the breather and mounted the K&N just above the filters if you have room



If you find a nice small catch tank please let me know as i am still thinking of running another breather from the oil filer plug and conect them both to a catch tank and use the K&N on top of the tank

Cheers guys, this kind of negates the need for a low profile breather over the standard one though. Any thoughts on why oil blow back is a problem with these fitted?

The standard one has baffle plates and pipes to prevent the problem...

I have seen a pipe run up and over the frame tube and down to feed oil onto the chain area

I have two of these and I just noticed something, (both are slightly different) don't know if it makes any odds but perhaps those with the low profile jobbie can tell me what one they have fitted and if they fitted it as per OldKawmans instructions.

Just wondering if the orientation is important or even key to stopping oil blow? Seems like the pointer (tab) is there for a reason. Looks like the filter (breather) would sit slightly askew to the left following his instructions.
