Seem to be having one of then moments so thought I would ask

Synchronizing vm29 smoothbores, I have notice to synchronize the carbs they have 2 adjusting screws one with a lock tab and one with a lock nut.

iam guessing to release the lock tap slacken off the screw, then do the adjustments with the screw and locknut, when balanced tighten the other screw and secure lock tap :?? :??

Stemy, I know exactly what you mean...
This always take me a while to find out what is going on with these adjusting lock screws and lock bolts.
Note that there are some 26 mm Mikuni carbs with the same type of adjustment as these 29mm Smoothbores.
Give me a day to look it up... I seem to remember some reluctance to flatten the lock washers & undo one of them, incase I stripped the 8mm thread.
Again , just from memory I seem to think You flatten the lock washer of the Lock bolt and then undo the lock nut and adjust the screw to set the float height.... Then lock the nut & lock bolt?

Well maybe I have the answer, just went and pulled out a box of 29mm Smoothbores, I've had for a while, to have a look at this problem.
The two items we are discussing are...
The ADJUSTING Screw and Lock nut (8mm).
The LOCK Bolt (7mm head) and tab washer

To adjust the sync, you must first unlock the "adjusting screw" lock-nut (that's the one on the left of pic)
Next, fold down the tab washer of the "lock-bolt" (that's the one on the right with the slot in the top of the bolt.

Note that the adjusting screw is threaded in the top part of the mechanism only and acts against a spring loaded lever, after which it is locked by the locking nut.
Whereas the adjusting bolt is threaded into the bottom section and is the final lock after adjustment has been made. After that the washer is folded up against the head of the bolt.
