Hi just got my bike out after been layer up for ten years. Started up but leaking petrol from the petrol pipe where they go into the carbs by the T piece. I'm not knowledgable enough to strip the carbs down so wondering how much it would cost to recondition and clean them up. I've taken the carbs off now!

After 10 years with petrol in the system,the petrol will have gone "bad".

The result will be a sticky "varnish" that will have built up inside the carbs, blocking the jets , needles etc.

Can be expensive having them cleaned by a third party e.g vapour or sonic cleaned - But def. worth it.

You can with minimal mechanical knowledge strip & clean them yourself.

Get a hold of a manual & read through the carb section.

Give it a try- it will save a couple of hundred pounds

I drained all the fuel out, I think the rubber seals ect must have dried out. It would be nice to have them all cleaned up like new but that will have to wait if its a couple of hundred. The bike actually stared up so if I manage to stop the leaking I may be able to run it.

As a temporary solution you could buy a carb 'repair' kit, which basically
includes all the seals and gaskets you need and new float valves in it,
they are inexpensive to buy from Z-Power https://www.z-power.co.uk/merchantmanag ... cts_id=148 at £17 for each carb
and will help you get on the road for summer (yeah what summer? lol)
until say winter, when you lay the bike up again, then get them vapor / sonic blasted like stu said...

P.S. you may even get a bit of discount with Z-Power if you're
a full paid up club member, but don't quote me on it, think it depends
on certain items.

Wow! Those storage vacuum bags must work well then.

I've got an inflatable cocoon thing that I store my bike in over winter,
which requires a fan inside to keep it inflated, which means yeah, I can see
the bike is in a big clear plastic inflated bubble,
but it takes up a lot of room, so looks like one of them
vacuum bags will be adequate and space saving too.

You must be excited about your first ride around on it.

NjW, like your Z1A! That has to be the neatest set of crash bars I've seen.
You can buy new tee-pieces in alloy, they have replaceable o-rings. The originals with their plastic bulge always fail. Could be a simple fix, particularly as it runs now.

Checkout the lack of locking tabs on the 6 securing bolts for the front discs or am I missing something?
