John it don't work like that, there are no small oilways that the oil eventually works its way round, what we have is a big fuck off cam chain tunnel in the middle, that upon stopping the oil drops back to the sump, quickly, if you are waiting all night to see the level, probably on the side stand,
its not worth waiting for, here is how it goes, stop the engine, wait a few seconds level it , look and see, NOTHING , ok pull it towards you, (stand up) some oil showing good, push it back to centre, if low just top it up to just below the high level,
remember now, there is big space for the hot oil to quickly settle to the correct level, there will always be more that settles overnight, but its not how its checked, check it quickly, after use, on full stand on level ground, wait no more than 5 or 10 secs if short, top up, and that's it, for sure the longer you wait some oil will drain back to the sump, from places like the cam reservoirs, between the clutch plates from the cam chain etc etc that's not what we are looking for, that's total capacity in a rebuilt engine . (minus filter), I have approached this from many angles, why cause I am bored, perhaps, but mainly to help those new to the mysteries of engines
