I have seen something similar on a supercharger . Have no idea what this thing does ?

It's a dragrace MAGNETO.
Self generating ignition.
Usually has no provision for spark advance or retard so timing is fixed at full advance.
Common makes are , Koenig , Mallory, Ard.
This one is rare because of the name and not for what it is.

i think you mean no 'automatic' mechanism for advance. they usually have a manual advance/retard capability - usually via a cable.

Ah! Yes. Mostly cable operated on the likes of early Lucas and BTH mags but very rarely on these
dragrace set ups for the zeds and GS's etc to which i was inferring.
Non of the ARD, Mallory, koenigs etc i have run had advancers.
