What would you do?

#1 PostAuthor: coldsummer » Fri Jun 07, 2013 2:16 pm

Given a choice of two ten year old bikes, one hasn't been used for 9 years and is 'as new' with hardly any miles, the second has about 12K miles but well cared for and fully serviced?

I'm kind of attracted to the first one but just concerned that being sat unused for 9 years will have done more harm than good (bearings, pivot points, brake system, engine etc).

It will be mainly a 'collectors piece' with the occasional sunny day ride.

Any thoughts guys?

I'd be more inclined to go for the 12k miles one, but without
seeing them both, difficult to make a firm decision for me...

With the 12k one, at least it has been serviced,
and got through it's 'teething stage', where any
problems should have been noted on M.O.T.'s
and service history (presuming documents for
both are still with the bike(s).

If the price for both are roughly the same, might
be worth trying to haggle a bit with the 12k miles
one based on mileage also

All will be revealed in the fullness of time Paul, suffice to say it is a Kawasaki

Jay, the 12K miles one is about half the price of the other but has less 'fancy bits'.

OK, it's not a big secret, I've been selling off most of my toys over recent months but I've always promised myself one of the very last P7 ZX7r's having owned five since the 90's. I planned to get the nicest one I could find, as original as possible and not thrashed to within an inch of it's life, but this one is on ebay and has some very tasty upgrades but not been used for about 9 years apart from regular runs on the dyno.

It's a lot more than I had budgeted for but then it has some very tasty extras and all the original parts. But, there are a few more around with higher mileage and service histories but half the money. I'm caught in two minds. :?? :??

Here's a couple of others on fleabay at the moment (like buses! - yea, I know slow and heavy but handle beautifully)...

I'm swaying that way

They are such good value at the moment compared to older classics, not to mention beautiful and that appeals to my shallow nature :)
