Not charging

Hi all,
Ive fitted an early Z650 engine into a KZ650CSR rolling chassis with all electrics from csr except for the generator, bike is running but discharges the battery after 5 minutes. What do I need to do to get the battery charging?
Generator has 3 phase as per pic 1. Bike has regulator rectifier like the one above. It has 3 Yellow, 1 black 1 Red/white and 1 green wire.
Loom has 1 brown wire but no green wire.
Hope this makes sense.
Any Ideas?

ORIGINAL WIRING SHOULD BE THE SAME AS BELOW
YELLOW = AC FROM GENERATOR
RED/ WHITE = BATTERY POSITIVE
BLACK/ YELLOW = EARTH
BROWN = SWITCHED LIVE
I WOULD SAY THE GREEN IN YOUR PATERN REGULATOR SHOULD GO TO THE BROWN WHICH IS ONLY LIVE WHEN THE IGNITION IS SWITCHED ON

Pic 1 shows a 3 phase alternator with a separate powered exitation field coil, i believe the type fittted to later 650,as apposed to a permanent magnet rotor.
Pic 2 shows a single phase alternator without seperate exitation field,check which type alternator you have and i should be able to verify your connections.

The 77 B1 and C1 use a 3-phase excited field alternator and a separate rectifier and regulator - this system is unique to the 77 models and can not
use the later model rectifier/regulator - nor can the 77 rectifier and regulator be used on later model 650s. The separate 77 rectifier and regulator are no longer available
from Kawasaki,
The CSRs (and a few other late model 650s if I recall correctly) use a 3-phase permanent magnet alternator and a combined rectifier/regulator. This rec/reg is also
still available (at least as aftermarket) and can be used on all 3-phase permanent magnet models.
The easy way to tell what system you have:
- 3 yellow stator wires plus 3 bolts in the center of the alternator cover plus a green wire from the regulator to the field coil = 3 phase excited field system
that requires separate 77 rectifier and regulator.
- 2 yellow stator wires and no bolt holes in the cover = 1 phase permanent magnet system that requires a 1-phase combined rec/reg (used on most of the 650s from 78 and up).
- 3 yellow stator wires and no bolt holes in the cover = 3 phase permanent magnet system that requires a 3-phase combined rec/reg (used on the CSRs and possibly a few other modesl).
Hi Yellow lifted this from a Yank forum,seems you have a combined reg/rect suitable for use with Z1 type permanent magnet rotor ,seems you have the green wire as the unit you are using has the seperate exitation field.it states above it needs separate 77 reg and regulator...Hope this helps Paul J

Thanks Paul J for the reply,
I also have the - 2 yellow stator wires and no bolt holes in the cover type alternator plus the matching rotor that bolts onto the crank.
Would this be an easier option? Where would i get a pullers to remove the original from the crank? Also I think my reg/rec is aftermarket so any links to the correct one I need?

just put a 12 volt switched live to the green wire to energise the field coil

RR possibly for a H**** and the green will be earth and not the switched live. Red/white out to battery, black switched live green earth, yellow to alt doesn't matter which. see what the numbers come up with in google if it says SH232 it's a H****

Ive changed the alternator and stator to a 1979 2 phase. Will look on ebay for the correct reg/rec for this.

Think the field coil may need to be from a regulated source as per diagram, from switched live couldnt this exceed 12 volts?

Update...
Got a two phase regulator/rectifier from a Z200 single. All wires match and bike is charging to 14:00 when revs are kept about 3000.
Have to come up with a way to switch off/on low beam as this is Ameircan spec with light staying on.
