Is there a gauranteed cure for stuck rings?
Have a good condition 1015 barrels and pistons that have come from US, stood ages and all gummed up.

All but 1 x ring have freed off with the use of carb cleaner, heat etc.

One is stuck fast. and refuses to move after a month imersed in xylene.

Any ideas?

Think u may have to bite the bullet and apply ever-increasing gentle force!!! If it breaks up, clean the piston groove and fit new rings. Depending on circumstances, would be best to re-hone & new rings whilst shes in bits!!!! Good luck.

You could try soaking it in diesel for a week and then as Pigford says ever increasing force.

Thanks, will give it a go, but I suspect the "force" option will be the only one. Shame really,Its just one ring and everthing else really is mint.

Turn barrel upside down and fill bottom of piston with ice. Leave for ten minutes - then hit it. Don't laugh - think about it.........

If Rich's suggestion fails pour in some gin and tonic and drown your sorrows ;)

Hi Tom dont laugh but this worked for me,an old pot filled with water on the cooker and bring to the boil,then place piston in pot with a bit of welding wire attached,leave to simmer for a couple of mins,then remove if your lucky the ring will have started to come out of the grove,if not gently ease ring out with a small screwdriver,remember and wear gloves or similar when handling piston

I thought it was stuck in the barrel, if it's just the ring stuck in the piston do as Ian suggests or boil it in oil, outside preferably as this really upsets the other half!
