Hi Guys, I'm at my wits end with my bike. I parked it up about a week ago going all OK. Tried to start it today and nothing. It turns over ok but no spark. Checked all the block connectors, OK. Put a bulb across the right coil wires, very dim and nothing on the left. I'm talking about the wires into the coils not the HT leads. I'm thinking it may be igniter box, what do you guys think. Bike is a 1981 CSR1000 M1

Kill switches can often be the culprit

took the kill switch off and just happen to have a spare so stuck that on, still dead. again a small amount of current going through the righthand side coil, like i'm getting a little shock when I hold the spark plug and turn it over, obviously shouldn't be able to hold it. So back to square one, anyone else got any clues as to what it might be ? thanks $tevie.

No but you just pull the clutch in.

what voltage have you got between the red wires on the coils + earth

I don't know, I don't have a multimeter or voltage gauge. I'll get one tomorrow. It can't be much as I put an indicator bulb across it and turned it over and it was very dim, and nothing on the left side. It's not sparking the plugs at all.

there wont not be enough voltage there anyway to light up a 12v test bulb. the way you are testing the voltage you need a logic probe to check for ignition pulses

got a multimeter, there's nothing coming through these wires at all, totally dead.

with the ignition switched on put the positive lead of your tester to the red wire on the coil + the negative lead to a good earth / preferably to the engine + you should have battery voltage = 12 volts

If there's nowt at the red wires on your coils with the ign ON and the kill switch in the RUN pos'n, then check the brown wire going into the RH handlebar switch, that shouls have 12v which then supplies power th the kill switch.

Look at the LH pic of this and follow it through.

OK I done that after almost stripping the whole bike down and hey presto, I'm getting 12v so I loosely stuck it all back together and I now have a spark at all four. So it must have been a bad connection but I cannot see any. I'll just have to clean all the terminals and earths. Big thank you guys for all your help.

stuck it all back together and now it's only firing on the left outer cylinder, 11.8 volts going to both coils, what's going on ?
