I can recommend dartford rebore if they are still trading done a bit of head work for me, seats and valves cut in, turned it round while i waited they do lots of other stuff too. Mind you it depends on what you have in mind.

for head work i'd talk to buzzard.

Thanks so far - but I didn't make myself very clear about what I was looking for.

Basically, I'm pretty hopeless at mechanics etc. So I'm looking for a reliable place that will check over my Z1B top end (pistons, rings, valves etc.) and replace what needs replacing without ripping me off.

There seems to be some good places around the Midlands, but I don't know of anybody in South East.

If it's still in one piece starts and runs fine run with it, set up the valve clearances, timing, then compression test it, the compression test will give you an idea of the engine condition,
How many miles on it?
There are a few bike places in our area but no specialist rebuilders, i have always done most of my own work, but if i had to have any valve seat cutting i took it to dartford rebore.
I could always come to you and check valve clearances, timing and compression test the old girl if it's in one piece, i'm only up the road in Walderslade.
