530 Conversion kit

OK, so it's guaranteed a stupid question, but it's been a long time since I personally have put a new chain and sprockets on a bike.... Possibly an Elsie back in the 80's!!!

Question. Do I simple peen the chain at it's given length i.e. I dont need to remove any links?

Reason being I've a JMC deep braced swinging arm on the Z and I want to thread the chain through the JMC and then peen it on a vice and then fit it all to the bike.

Buy the tool- it makes splitting the chain and riveting it easy and reliable.

Last thing you want is to give the chain a tight spot or the opposite where it is not rivetted enough and could come apart.

John, you will have to determine the correct length of chain before doing anything, also, you will need to see that the supplied front and rear 530 sprockets is the same ratio as the previous (before conversion) chain set-up.
I take it it is a Z1000-A1 you are converting.

Yes Garn it's a Z1000A1. Oh well, I guess I'll just have to peen the soft link when it's on the bike, and buy a chain splitter :)

J Wilson, from what you're saying can the chain splitter also be used for fitting the soft link?

Does anyone know if the club hires them out?

Thanks.

John

Yes, they split and rivet.

Choose carefully.

They go for £30 on Ebay so its not a fortune to put one in your toolbox.

Go for the whale chain tool. I wouldnt be with out mine, it splits with ease, puts the side plates on square and its peening tool is top quality.,, and will peen all types of rivet.
At about £100 for the full kit it may not be the cheapest, but it will last and last, and even if you sell it later you will get a good price.

Hi m8, they look great kit but it seems the price has gone up to £130, some others seem to sell as only a breaker or a rivetter, not both :/
