Just got an RD400C..... its got Newtronics (Pirhana) ignition... Tried to set timing by manual to 2.3mm BTDC, and she run good til 4/5000rpm, then power dropped off.. to retarded. Re-set to as was.. about 5/6mm BTDC and OK. Now the RD400 is supposed to be 2.3mm, and double checked dial gauge settings... spot on! What am i doing wrong???
2 strokes don't have advance curves do they???? Worried she may hole a piston, or 2!!!

For anyone who's even slightly interested?????? Optical ignitions must NOT be set in bright sunlight!!!! The infra red sensors get fooled by the sunlight & mess up timing. Re set mine in the shade of the garage and shes running soopa doopa now!

Keep that left hand hovering over the clutch just in case she nips mate. I had a Beckett tuned 350lc that nipped on me whilst chasing a RD500lc a few years back. Left a tyre mark over a hundred yards long. **** myself big style but kept her upright more by luck then judgement.
Cheers Ian.
