It doesn't start....

Hi.

today I complete the job.
I tried to switch on but it doesn't start.
I opened the tap and after few seconds fuel was flowing from the overflow pipes of the carbs.
After I screw in the throttle screw the overflow fuel stopped.
Starter was on all the time.
After many trials the battery was discharged.

I checked two spark plugs and they were wet.

Any tip or check list is more then welcome.

Maybe something is lost in translation but ...............

The float level would appear to be too high.

I would go through everything once more as described in your manual.

as chris said - sounds like floats may be sticking.

Also which plugs were wet - 1&4 or 2&3 or something else ?

if its a pair (as above) then check they're sparking ok. Might be a coil gone.

Might be worth investing in a set of plugs if they're not new.

is it timed up ok ?

Is it sparking, you could try swapping the middle two ht leads with the outer two, to see if you have the ignition timing 180 degrees out ?

As already said it sounds like your floats are sticking for the carbs to be overflowing. These definitely need looking at.

Check the spark in the usual way. A trick you can try if spark is present, is to turn off the fuel at the tap, remove the air filter, smother the air intake with a cloth lightly soaked in petrol and then try to start. If the bike fires in anyway (mine actually runs like this) then you are definitely back to the carbs. If still nothing happens it could be timing.

If you have no spark at all try checking the battery condition and connections before looking further, particularly if you are using electronic ignition. Mine wont fire at all if the battery voltage drops. Charge the battery and check the voltage while turning the engine on the button. If the battery voltage falls much below 12v it is probably scrap.

BREAKING NEWS!!!

This evening the engine started.
A bloody green wire below the fuel tank was disconnected....

Engine is running very badly.
It runs only with starter fully opened.
There are a lot of shots like gun shots which scared my mother in law :D .

I haven't done anything to the engine except cleaning outside and opened the valve cover for valve lifter clearance.

I dismantled the carbs and cleaned but not vacuum cleaned. For sure there is something wrong in the carbs. This is far behind my capability.
I am going to take out the carbs and send out for proper cleaning and refurbishing.

However I am anyway happy.

Bike looks nice.

Thanks a lot again for all suggestions given to me so far.

The green wire is one of the coil feeds which would give you no spark.

Good to know you are making progress.

Nice looking bike you have :D

THE BLACK WIRE FROM THE POINTS GOES TO NO 1+4 COIL. THE GREEN WIRE GOES TO NO 2+3 COIL

try a new set of sparkplugs and leave out the air filter ,might help.

most likely ignition timing out or you have got the firing order wrong . the left hand coil is for spark plugs no 1+4 + has 1 black+ 1 yellow wire. the right coil is is for no 2+3 spark plugs + has 1 green + 1 yellow wire

Big bangs , in my experience, usually mean I've got the timing way, way out - 180 degrees or so.
So you can swop the plug caps 1 and 4 for 2 and 3 , and vice versa, that will quickly allow you to try 180 degrees different ignition timing. if the HT leads won't reach , swopping the LT feed over between the coils will do the same thing

If the green was disconnected you may find the other wire to the other pair of coils disconnected.

Check the two wires and make sure you have connected the green to and black wires to the right set of coils.
as per z1bmans comments

If it ran last year its unlikely to be a timing issue, more likely that the cables became disconnected when refitting the tank etc.

Use your hand to feel the exhaust gasses coming out of each pipe in turn. This will tell you which cylinders are misfiring. If only one is popping then you probably have air entering the system. Either on the inlet or exhaust side. If more than one then timing is your main suspect as already said.
