Help needed please!

I'm in the process of fitting a new set of Tarozzi rearsets. The gearchange side went quite easily but the brake side is causing me a problem.

The photo shows the brake pivot shaft in the centre of the photo, its the round shaft with the threaded end. At the other end, where it joins the frame there is a thick round spacer. The new rearset has a rocker arm that pivots on that shaft. The new rocker arm doesn't slide far enough along the pivot shaft so I'm 99% sure that the spacer has to be removed to fit the new rocker arm but it wont budge.

Are these welded on or is it just rusted tight or held on with excess powder coating? I'm loathed to whack it or get too physical with it unless I know it should budge. Any advice is gratefully received whilst I thaw out!

If it screws out I'll apply a bit of pressure and a bit of heat to it. I didn't before in case it was welded and I ended up wrecking things. It's going to take a large set of grips though.

if it was made to unscrew i would have thought it would be listed as a replacement part ? like the footrest mounting studs are. i am certain they are welded to the frame. i will be prepared to eat my words.

i may be wrong a long time ago when i sent the frame off to coat so speak so been to check and its welded so u will need to make other means of fitting

If the pivot is welded on, then does anyone know if the washer / bush is welded up too?

If it is, I may need to get the rocker arm machined down. I'm surprised as the rearsets seem to be very well engineered otherwise.

Has anyone else experience fitting Tarozzi rearsets, to give some advice.

mine went straight on, i dont remember any extra bush to remove on my Z1000A1

Try to zoom in to the picture to get a close up of the pivot.

Has anyone else got a dismantled frame to compare against? The bush sits at the base of the pivot where it joins the frame and the Tarozzi rocker arm hits it on assembly and nothing lines up by exactly the amount that corresponds to the thickness of this bush, so I'm sure the bush needs to go.... I'm just not sure how, without getting the grinder out.

it is not a washer the shaft is machined down it looks like a washer but it is part of the shaft. your will have to get you lever machined so it fits the shaft i have a frame here ready striped ready for powder coating

Thanks for checking for me. That's told me exactly what I need to do to move forward and get the rearsets fitted, without wrecking the frame.

I'll do as you suggest and get the new rocker arm machined down

are you sure you have the right parts from tarozzi for the right model? they should be bolt on

I'm as sure as I can be. The parts are identical to the assembly instructions that are titled 'Kit Pedane Kawasaki 1000 Z1R'

Everything else fits perfectly. I'm wondering if the rocker arm supplied is the wrong part so I've bounced an email back to Discovolante asking for them to investigate.

Failing that, I need to find a quality engineering shop near me in Sutton Coldfield.

width of chrome pivoting part that goes on the spindle is 70mm, the nut sits inside the recess on the outer edge, see photo...

Yep

The rocker arm I have is 70mm long too..... but its too long at that. I wonder if Z1Rs are slightly different to Z1000s then?

It's all very frustrating... but I will overcome!
