ZZR1100 wont run off choke

#1 PostAuthor: tuck257 » Tue Feb 19, 2013 4:30 pm

Ok, i need my ZZR1100 out the shed so i can get the Z1000 J on the lift, problem i have now is she started up fine about 6 weeks ago, come to start it up ready to take it for mot and it will run and rev up on choke but as soon as you start taking choke off she cuts out, just like you have a main jet blocked.
Now i cant have all 4 jets blocked at same time, fuel pump works fine, there seems to be a smell of unburnt fuel, so thinking the igniter is at fault. There is a spark when testing on plugs when just flicking it over on starter.
Anybody got any ideas??
Cheers to all.

what condition are the spark plugs in? if they are covered in black soot or wet from fuel i would change the plugs. check the plug caps as the plug hole in the head holds water + corrodes the core of the cap. look into the cap to make sure there is no sign of corrosion

Flat battery so that the black box isn't getting a good electric supply at low revs when off choke?

The spark plugs were not wet nor sooty and seem to be fine, i may change them just to be on the safe side.

Worth checking the air filter.

Ok, well it still wont run right, have now got a new battery on it, new spark plugs and fresh fuel, it is on an auxillary tank at moment, just so i can see what im doing. I have also changed the igniter for another i have, no differance and also swapped ht leads and coils for some others i have, also no change.
Looks like carbs are going to have to come off and stripped down, but i just cant see how all 4 carbs can fault at the same time.
Does anyone else have any other ideas??

Getting one desperate dude.

is the fuel pump working? another common problem on the zzr is the diaphragm rubbers get twisted in the top of the carb chamber + cause the slides to get jammed. although i don't think this would cause the problem you have but worth a look

See if it will run on easy start before you remove carbs, this will tell you if its fuel or electrical....
