Balance pipes

#1 PostAuthor: corpy » Sun Feb 10, 2013 6:20 pm

This is non-Kawasaki, therefore invisible to purist K-owners, so that's alright.
A friend has a carburetted Suz*** 803 cc Intruder and he is wanting to fit non-original silencers to make it sound a bit more interesting.
This made me realise that I know nothing about exhaust system balance pipes - I always presumde that their only function is to somehow modify the exhaust sound.
Is this true?
If the balance pipe system is disconnected should the carb needles or their jet be changed?
Is it just a matter of adjusting the tickover?
Thanks for the advice that I hope will come flooding in.

Any modifcations to the exhaust system may effect the fuel/air mixture with the carbs possibly needing re jetting.

The balancer pipes are supposed to modify noise emissions as they smooth out the engine/exhaust pulses... which may effect engine running/tuning slightly :!: Such and See
And on the 7th day... Zeds were created!
