Hi folks,
I've just become the proud owner of a 1975 Z1 - in great condition.
However the tyres need replacing as its been garaged for a while.
I have tried to find a set to match those in the manual - i.e. with English sizes but not many shops in the US stock these.
Can someone let me know what they are running in metric equivelent with good experience.
I will not be doing much wet riding and mainly road.

welcome to the site.
Bridgestone Battlax BT45's are good, i, [and i know many other club members], have used these for quite a while, with good results.
Sizes for std wheels are, Front; 100/90x19. Rear; 120/90x18.
Good luck with not doing much wet riding, there's no chance of that in the UK!

On the conversion sites I have seen the 4.00 x 18 (described in the bike manual) show a 110/90 x 19 metric size however the bike currently has what you suggested a 120 x 19, but this tyre has worn through the chain guard so I guessed it was too big.
Can you advise on this?

You quote 120/19, was this a mistake?
120/90x18 is the correct fitment for a standard wheel, i have this size on both my Z1B and my Z900, with no problems. Have checked clearance between chainguard and tyre, it's approx 1/2". I have also double checked with a Dunlop fitment list too.
I can only assume you have one of the following; a non-standard swinging arm or chainguard, or perhaps the previous owner has fitted a wider wheel rim than normal? Is the chainguard located correctly? There are plates on the arm that the guard locates in, to keep it from fouling the tyre.

As Phil says and I used to run my Z900 with a 130 on the rear with no problems either, with STD chainguard & swingarm.
