Help choosing a grade of alloy for making plates

Hi All.
Got a couple of mounts and plates to get made up.
Need some advice on what grade of alloy I need.
first is a fork brace plate for a set of fz750 forks.
This is just a flat plate with 4 holes in it .
The second is to make up a set of mounts for twin shocks on an fzr swingarm.
Should I have them machined from a solid block or could they be welded up from plate?
Is there a type of alloy that is best and can be welded to a standard yamaha swingarm.
I wont be welding it but the guy who will be is "Difficult" to get any info from. He welds up Oil containers for a living not usually bikes.
