FORK LEG LUGS?

At a recent gathering of Zedheads in my Zed Shed, the question was ask what are those lugs for? (the small ones)

Can't be casting as Z1 series don't have em.

Over size fenders on cop bikes need one each side leg.

So? And why is the D3 one beefed up?

Good question RGH.
I've been searching for an answer to this for a while!
The bracket cast into the fork bottoms is obviously for a mudguard stay and I think only the W1's had these small brackets in use!
I then thought maybe the first H1 & H2 had them.

I came to the conclusion that Kawasaki wanted to keep their options open regarding high speed handling of the Z1.... Was it a negative to have the wind resistance of the stay against positive of the extra stability of the front forks?

If you have ever ridden a Z1 without a front guard you will know how much we depend on a solid front guard, hence, the intro of "fork stabilisers" and Fork damper complete with standard bracket. Kawasaki did think ahead, as evident by the brackets for the extra disk!

Do we know any, other than the Z1 series, with reflector mounts on the side of the lower fork legs?
