Z1100shaft/ Z1000J / GPZ alternative calipers ?

I am having big pain and grief with the brakes on the shafter; any one have any ideas on a more modern and more reliable setup, that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. I'd love some Pretechs, but a pair is £480 + VAT. I can get a bit of trade off, but their still too rich for my meagre pockets
I wondered about Zephyr eleven stoppers?
Any ideas?
Cheers

I have some GPz 900 you can have a look at, they have the lines with them as well didn't fit my GPz1100 b1

I will make some ZZR600 calipers fit (the same as Zephyr 11), but you will definitely have to space out the brake disks.
If you want, I have a set of Ducati 996 calipers kicking about, one of which needs a bleed nipple removed, but except from that are in good nick.
Cheers,
Greg

Thanks for that Mark.
Given that they didn't fit a GPZ then I guess it's a tad unlikely they'll fit mine, as I think the forks I have are GPZ - I bought them from you - Stafford before last

I think that 900R calipers are very similar to the stock calipers on GPZs, Js etc which I'm told aren't great at the best of times - If I'm to start making brackets and stuff I may as well get some more pistons involved

Hi Greg
By spacing out the discs I guess you mean bring them away from the centre line of the wheel. That sounds like major engineering, as disc radial position, from memory, is dictated by a flange in the cast wheel - if the disc is to come out further than that, how would you get position? The only way I can think would be to machine a big stepped ring, but that would be well beyond the spec of my lathe.
The 996 calipers sound fun - would the inside of those clear the spokes do we think? I'm sure I could machine up some brackets to make them fit the legs. I reckon that there's about 34mm maximum clearance between the disk and the spokes at the narrowest part.

Well, such spacers exist and quite cheaply so. I plan to simply use some cheap, worn old brakedisks as spacers, as the Brembo calipers foul the spokes by about 1mm and the centre-bit of an old brake disk gives you 4mm spacing per side.
If you happen to have some brakedisks I can do that for you, if you want or I can actually get you a set of worn disks overhere and turn them down for you on my lathe.
The adapters are really easy, basically just a bit of flatbar, if you want to mill them, or some plate and some spacers if you only have a drillpress and lathe.
I will go down the same route with some Zephyr1100/ZZR600 calipers, but mated to some VN1500 brake disks, as these are a straight fit and 305mm in diameter and are full floating (some model years are, the later models have solid disks).
Cheers,
Greg
