Cam Chain tensioner

Can anyone confirm if this is a correct set up for my camchain tensioner.
Z1000a1- 1977

I dont remember seeing the small roller bearing :?:

Yes! That is correct.
The small "roller bearing" is actually a one way clutch to prevent the tensioner from backing off and must not be left out unless you want to achieve mechanical mayhem on the engines internals.

If you have ridden the other bike i would say all is ok.
Without the roller clutch you would have wrecked the valves within a few yards of riding .
Thats if you were even lucky enough to get it in to gear before the camchain jumped a few teeth.

no that is not the correct one for a z1000a1 it should have the same tensioner as the z1 through to the z900 type

That tensioner will work in any of the kick start motors.

I am confused now

That diagram is what I have been used to. this one does not match.

Thats what I thought z1b, As I have had my other zed stripped down a couple of times & was sure I didnt have a bearing. & the end plastic looks different - this one seems more "round"

I got this part from Gray ( member here) a year ago with the a load of other parts.

This does seem to work okay though & the casing does line up on the barrels, so maybe a later model Mk2 :?:

yes it will work but you are more likely to have engine damage with that system most people converted it to the self adjustment method bye replacing the small assemble bolt for a longer one to lock the adjuster rod + it was only introduced on the z1000 mk 2 onwards

Thanks guys.

I think I will use this one.

The end of the rod has a "lip" so once the lock bolt is fitted with a lock nut, I cant see this coming loose and fouling into the engine.
