So the generator doesn't work :(

Windings check out, no continuity, no shorts to earth, new lead checks out, but at the blue plug with the engine running 4k rpm - 8v on one wire 4v on another and sweet f a on the other - must be a break or two somewhere.

I'm about to order a replacement windings, any preference on supplier? Jeff's 15% upgraded one, ZP's standard aftermarket replacement or JB's rewound exchange one?

As the rotor can hold the weight of my impact driver on any segment - is there anything I've missed? or should I consider it good?

Yes I will put the bolt back

With engine at 4k u need to check if you have 50v ac or above between the three outputs wires from the genny if u have then check across battery that u have around 14.6v dc at above 2.5k revs.if you have low ac suspect genny or wiring if you have low dc suspect rectifier if u have high dc suspect regulator i see u have already checked rotor for magneitsm,if genny is in bits what reading do you get in Ohms across the three output(same readings) are they balanced...Cheers Paul J

Thanks Paul, getting nothing between one of the pins and any of the other two and less than 30V AC between the other two, the reading keeps going down.
Just tested the ohms and I'm now getting a short to earth on the rogue pin, which I wasn't earlier - taken the casing back off and it don't smell too good either - its toast!

hi hinkley, reference the windings, if you get a pattern new set, make sure there is two clamps to pull the wires out of the way, like a genuine set of windings, i bought a set supplied from hi level, through where i used to work,
and didnt notice there was only one clamp, when the wires got warm they relaxed and the starter clutch ring gear went straight through wires,
hope this info is usefull to you, bye for now, tricky.
