no oil light

Just bought a z1b. the oil light doesnt come on. (bulb is ok) engine runs fine though. I get 12 volts to the wire that goes to the switch. does the switch earth the wire when the engine is not running so making the bulb come on.
I have removed the switch. it does'nt seem to make any difference if i do a continuity test on the switch, ie with the plunger pushed in.
if the switch is faulty has anyone got one i can buy,

cheers,
peter

the brass circular plate which is attached to the switch should touch the crank case when fully screwed in. i have fitted a small washer under the plate on previous occasions so it makes contact to earth when switch is fitted .

Works just like a courtesey light switch on a car door pillar.

Does anyone know at what pressure the light comes on at??

I'd imagine about 6psi??

Thanks mr Padders, I wont need your switch.
I have done what Z1Bman said and fitted a small washer under the brass washer and all is ok.
Many thanks again.

Light comes on when pressure drops too low - some less than 2psi..... But it also depends on oil type/viscosity too :!:

2psi??

I think the engine would be wrecked BEFORE the light comes on!!

The engine runs at a very low oil pressure.
