I assume it is pressed down out of the bottom of the yoke.

I was looking for tips on t'interweb and found this...

Please tell me he didn't use aluminium duct insulating tape to pack the hole between the bottom yoke and stem and then go racing!!!!

You are correct. If it can be pressed out it will go downwards.

Oddly enough, I've just posted this on another thread;


This is what I did the last time I needed to modify a stem. came from a Z1000J & was welded.

1. Cut off what you can.



2. Stick it in a lathe......... even a 'baby' Myford will do.



3. Machine it to fit your replacement bottom yoke.



This method is particularly useful if the replacement yoke was fitted with a larger diameter stem. Note the small 'lip' left on the bottom of the stem to stop it being 'pulled' through the yoke.

I need to keep the bottom yoke, I want to swap stems between 2, funnily enough Z1100R ones - same as Z1000J3, so I guess I'll just keep pressing, 10 tons might not be enough.

If it's an aluminium yoke, it can't be welded to a steel stem though, surely?
