I am in the process of acquiring the parts to build 2 Z1100R's.

One will be completely stock, probably the blue version.

The other will have a Metmachex swing arm and a widened rear wheel, ie a genuine 1100R wheel, on which the rim has been widened. I want to balance the look of the wider rear wheel on the front, ideally using a set of genuine 1100R forks. I want it to be identifiable as an 1100R not mistaken as a GPZ or Z1000J made to look like.

Thoughts at the moment is a Unitrak front wheel and mudguard, as I don't have two 1100R mudguards. I think the discs/calipers etc would fit.

Any thoughts on another 18" front wheel, wider tyred than the genuine 1100R, but looking to balance the rear?

Next project is likely to be a Z1000Mk2 big wheel, USD fork, Ohlins etc. Just my opinion, but I think the Z1000A and before are just gorgeous without much done to them. So cheap Mk2's considered.

A unitrac wheel does'nt look the same as a Z1100R.

I know Gus, I've got one, but it is Kawasaki, and of the era, and will fit the forks, and is wider than standar 1100R.

Just looking for other ideas.

Sorry for stating the obvious, I thought you meant "balance the look" by also having the same spoke pattern.

I did mean that, but I have a unitrac wheel, so that's where I am at right now.

I don't think a more modern wheel - exup or gsxr would look right, I was hoping for some inspiration, if not what would match then maybe what would compliment.

My mate has fitted a GPZ750 TURBO rear wheel as it is wider than the standard Unitrac rear wheel if this is any help

Please ignore the complete bolloxs I wrote above, it was because the 750 wheel was 18 inch instead of wider

Common 18" wheels are the slabside gsxr wheels, relatively cheap and readily available.

This pic shows a slabbie rear and a j front.




Less common 18"'s are the Slabside 1100 j ones. Better shot of the J rear.




With both j wheels in.


18" wheels are sought after by the classic race boys but a mate might have some slabby wheels for sale H pattern ones if they would help you.

I had a Unitrak front wheel with R1 discs on my Z1000R. I struggled with this set up as decent calipers hit the spokes of the wheel as no dishing on the disc. I now have an 18 inch CMA with ZXR750 discs on it and AP calipers in standard Z1000R forks and yokes. No clearance issues. At the back I run a 17 inch rear from a ZXR400 in a ZRX1100 swinging arm. It looks fine and balanced in terms of sizing and is also 3 spoke. Both are powder coated satin black.

I do have an 18 inch 3 spoke CMA to match the front that I was going to use but at the moment it's just too much hassle to find a disc, caliper mounting and get spacers done.

Thanks Gus, that is interesting, a unitrak front turbo 750 rear would match nicely.

Kwackerz1, cheers for that, what tyre does the H run on the front and how much does your mate want for his wheels?

I have the rear, a widened Z1100R wheel. It is starting to look like the unitrak front is the way to go - just need to decide on a disc and caliper set-up

Slabby tyre sizes are:

110/80/18 front
140/70/18 rears.

I'll ask my mate what he wants for his set.

It looks like SteveW has come up with the answer, in a set of Zephyr 750 running gear, this has the same width rear tyre as the modified wheel that I was going to use although 17" instead of 18", so the look will be similar, but with matching front and rears.

Good front brakes etc as well.
