new Vand H arrived yesterday. trying to fit it and I can not get the silencer to fit the down pipes its supposed to slide over but there is no way I can even get it started. I know others have fitted one of these recently HOW?
I have tryed heating silencer with boiling water but its not even close to going on?

Hello Steve R, We used to have to check that the silencer slid over the header pipes before we sent them out as this was not an uncommon problem, make sure the silencer is perfectly round, sometimes a small flat will prevent them going on, you can also try deburring the header pipes as the chrome sometimes forms a lip on the edge, alternativly return it to the supplier and ask for another one.

Steve I have checked its round, i dont want to even take the headers off again really, and I got it fron Z1 enterprizes in usa!
Do you think if I cut into the down pipe section with a hack saw to enable it to taper that this will allow It to fit?
I was not expecting this after every one said what good quality they were?

Steve R, mine was already on the bike and I have removed the whole system a few times, and it must be a very tight fit coz it appears to be in ONE piece..... I didn't realise they came apart!!!! Its only pushed together, no visible fixing method, such as bolts, welds,.. etc!!!! Good Luck!

No dont cut it down, if returning is not an option then file a taper onto the header pipes and then smooth it with emery cloth then use some oil, part of the disadvantage in importing from the states is that your on you own when it comes to sorting any problems. The V&H is the best pipe for performance but the quality does seem to have dropped recently, we used to stock the V&H and we used to make sure they 2 fiited before sending them out to customers.

Steve ,
Thank you so much for your advice I will try doing as you suggest.
Had you still stocked them I would definately have bought it off you!
Thanks again
Steve

Dave I did e mail them at Z1 enterprises and even though they are closed on saturday they did e mail me straight back suggesting I sand down the inside of the silencer. I do not know how I would go on returning to US if I could not fit it. It would get a bit expensive and time consuming.
Any way a determined effort this morning saw me spend two hours using every ones suggestions filing it, using a whole pack of wet and dry, blathering it with oil and heating the silencer part very hot, and with a fair bit of brute force it went on!!! My fingers are very sore now!
So thanks again for everyones help and suggestions.

PS it looks very good fitted, and I do not think it will be to quiet cos all it is , is an absorbtion silencer you can see straight through it!
Just the carbs to sort and refit and the tappets to do and I might finally be finished.
