bent frame.

Lucky me...seems like i've got a z900 a4 frame thathas been bashed at the front. ( That's e-bay for you...) Can anyone advise on the best place to take it to have it looked at /straightened. I don't want the hassle of finding another frame. ( unless someones got a Uk registered spare??)Thanks...

Hi Tim, unlucky. but go out and buy the new Classic Motorcycle Mechanics mag, and you will see them dealing with a bent Z1 frame in there, and telling you where to get it repaired.

Whoever you use make sure they are tried and tested I once had a frame straightened in what was then Southamptons leading motorcycle dealer and it was absolute crap, they seemed to think that as long as the headstock alignment was right the fact that all the tube around it was bent and twisted didn't matter, needless to say I never agreed and had to resort to threats to get it back without paying for the shoddy workmanship.

Tim. firstly, how do you know it's bent. Is it obvious or can you see some evidence that it has had a severe knock that would put it out of alignment.
Will an engine or dummy engine fit in with all mountings bolted?
Will the swing-arm fit?
Will the seat and rear guard fit?
Nearly all frames of Z900-A4 age have the metal plate under the steering head in bad shape as well as the lock stop pin.

A good frame straightener will usually require an engine or dummy engine, the swing-arm and rear wheel.

I have a method of checking how far out of alignment the steering head is to the swing-arm axis. I will expand on this if you want, however it really depends on your answers to above.

Tim it is pretty bent, but it looks as though it has new forks fitted, but I am a little confused (not hard for me) was this bike like this when you bought it?
Did you buy it knowing it was bent?
did you buy it from e-bay?

If yes to the first and no to the second, then you should be able to get your money back, especailly if it was done through e-bay.

From the photo, I believe the above frame will be able to straighten . Of concern is the dent in the front RHS down tubes. It may have to have one of those ugly sleeves fitted. However, there are some clever people around. Good luck.

No M.O.T. But will pass very easy owned for 6 years hardly been used"

He didn't know it was a Z900 and now says he didn't know the frame was bent. I've asked him to think about giving me a refund....he hasn't replied.... Not very honourable really.....

I would contact e-bay, and try to get some money back to cover a repair, as the bike obviously wasn't as advertised.

I would shoot your guide dog. I would try and get another frame as any type or repair will cause weakness, if you do get it repaired you should get a bracing kit to put a bit of strenth back.PS have fun
