Hi Steve,
I would not have thought that you would need to do anything really, I think as long as all the lights work as they should it would be ok. Obviously you need the headlight dipping the right way.

Best thing to do would be to ring where you are going to have it tested and discuss it with them. I think its best to find somewhere used to dealing with old Bikes rather than a modern dealer.
I am lucky in that the workshop manager of Appleyards in Keighley is a big fan of Zeds I think he has one in his living room!

The headlight dipping issue is not an automatic fail. The tester can simply stick tape over the offending lens section (as you do when travelling to Europe) and you're all set for the purposes of the test. What you do once you've left the test station is your business.
Steve R's right though - find a classics-friendly station to minimise tutting and head shaking! :D

Steve make sure there is a rear reflector fitted,as for the head light there dosent need to be a pilot fitted nor does the head light need to switch off as long as theres a dip and main beam and as Chris says if it dips the wrong way use a bit of tape to straighten out the pattern,I just fitted a good head light to the Spectre as i like to see where am going at night
Got the Rex, just the Kat to get now...

Guys

Thanks for your comments i have a new UK headlamp from z power, that will sort out my dip beam.
Elite Powder coating in Aintree (2 minutes from me mams house-free cup of tea and a cream cake) have done a great satin powder coat on the new headlamp shell-quality is excellent.

In fact they did the frame (yeah they did the frame gloss)and some other bits--really good job, done nice and quick and a great attitude--WELL DONE ELITE--i'll be back with some more bits!!!!!Recomended!!!!!!!!!!

I am relieved that i dont need to frig about with the loom and can get on with putting it back together now.

thanks again

regards

If it has a US tailight I think the reflector is built into the lens unlike the UK models which had a separate one mounted on the mudguard.
