ok here we go, i have a z1000j with incorrect clocks, im going to restore the bike this winter as has a gearbox problem.
I would like to know what the menbers have for solutions to my clock problem, do you have standards clocks i can fit including speed sensor, Mph. Or can you suggests other set ups i can fit, ie off other z1's, ill even consider digital systems to fit. What other clock /top yokes fit if any.
What answeres i get will depend on how the bike will look in spring, Standard look and colour or more modern. lets see.
Group effort so lets see what we come up with.

You can mod the upper yoke to take the clocks from a Unitrack model, but it looks quite err... rubbish. A very nice setup can be found on Z1100ST, but they're rarer than hen's teeth and to make it look good, you would have to swap the yokes, as the Z1100ST uses completely different forks.

I have the standard setup and it works well for me. Accurate enough for what i want and a steady needle etc. The odometer box is fine too but it is noisy. And i mean noisy. Didnt realise where that sound was coming from until we ran it up on the bench! If you have one and think you have a noisy engine check this first.
There is a later version of the J1 electronic speedo fitted to J2 or J3 i think but i dont know how well that works but i believe it looks the same but driven by cable rather than electronic sender.
My original speedo is being repaired (last 3 years) by a forum member and to be honest its looking like a nightmare. Difficult to get apart and then you need a phD in astro physics to touch the chip components. No idea how i'm going to put it back together with its crimped centre band. No matter the petrol will have run out by the time he returns it!
I'm currently using a LTD speedo head from a bike jumble and although it's not exactly the same, the orange control wire that Kawasaki snipped off is still present if you dig it out!

The choice is yours but original J's seem very thin on the ground.
Greg's idea is a good one because it will involve minimal changes (expense) and a possible future return to original if you / future owner decide later to go that way.

It may also provide breathing space to collect parts for a resto if it comes to that.

The bike is all standard, other than the usual exhaust and the clocks.
Not sure what the clocks are off but its a bodged up affair and looks awful, cable driven from usual drive from wheel, so this is not standard either.

The bike also has lugs welded to the frame, so at sometime in the past it has had a sidecar fitted, these will be removed when i strip down this winter.

Looking for a main stand also if anyone has one.
