I need to replace or re-chrome the forks fitted to my Z1000-A2.
They are different to the Z1, Z900 & Z1000-A1. The earlier model forks have a circlip at the bottom of the stantion, that lets you remove some of the stantion internals. The later model seems to contain the same components, but is swaged over, preventing their removal. Surely I can't have them re-chromed with these parts still fitted

Replacement of the early forks is relatively cheap, several people selling them for around £90 a pair, the later stantions are a bit thinner on the ground, best I've found so far is Wemoto, selling Tarrozi stantions for around £100 each.
Hard Chrome Plating & Grinding have quoted £140 inc return postage to do the job....... just not sure my forks can be re-chromed.

Not sure of the internal differences between the forks,

AM philpotts are probably the best at this and they will assess them and if they can do them turn them around within a couple of weeks with a door to door collection and drop off service.
I had some done that were pretty far gone (in my opinion) and they turned them around spot on.

It cost £160 but the service and quality is spot on I would use them again speak to them first they were very helpful when I phoned them.

Philpots would be the best, when rechromed the internals are plugged and generally a special wax is put where no chrome is needed, even if chrome solution got inside it would not plate up as the current would be shielded.

I had my Z1R forks rechromed Steve , i know the bush at the bottom is held in place and at first i thought they couldn't be done .
Z1R/A2 forks being the same there is no problem with chroming them and the bush is not affected by the process .
These guys did my forks and made a grand job of them and also put my mind at ease when i asked about the bushes .

GB, I understand about the slight difference in Z900-A4 fork legs and the Z1000-A2. The solution I found was to still buy new the Z1-Z900 chrome fork legs and fit the small pieces, retained by the circlip in the bottom of the leg, then fit the A2 dampers.

I once ground the old A2 legs down to extract the components that were burnished in, only to find they were a larger size than used in the Z1/Z900.

You have to consider going for these new Z1/ z900 fork legs as they work out 1/2 the price of hard chroming. Oh! you have to get the small pieces held in by the circlip from any second hand/ damaged/or rusted z1 or z900 fork set.

I've had Z1R forks rechromed by HCP&G in nottingham and that was 22 years/ 45k miles ago and they still look and work great. Philpotts did my GPz900R forks , 3 years ago , neither company needed every single internal part removed.

They will be off to HCP&G this week. They have done USD's for me in the past with excellent results.
