ignition coils?

Hi
took my bike out at the weekend,first time in a few weeks and it was running really bad like on 3 cylinders, I checked the spark at the plugs and just seem to be getting an intermittent or no spark, does this mean its the coils? I will take the tank off at the weekend and check the connections etc. It has electronic ignition on it, if I renew the coils would it be a good idea to buy Dyna S ?
any advice appreciated

Dyna S are the way to go for reliability. but check everything else first. Voltage to coils resistance across coils. there are a couple of good threads in here all bout coils. read up first and do some basic checks before you invest.

change the plugs first a duff coil would show on one pair of plugs where as a plug with high resitance or an internal short through the insulator will spark intermittant just a thought

...and.... check HT leads - run bike in dark to see if "arcing".....
...check that a good +12v is getting to coils...... common problem

I only seemed to be getting a faint intermittent spark on cylinder 3 spark plug
will check more at the weekend when I have time , how do I check the coils ?

I guess you need a multimeter , you should set it to resistance/ ohms,
then attach the probes to the low tension ( thin ) wires- any way round - should get low resistance
then put the probes into the 2 plug caps at the end of the HT leads- once again low resistance.
There should be infinite resistance between any thin wire and any HTlead/ plug cap

Swap coils over and see if fault moves!

I went to the bike at the weekendand it started and is running perfectly. I think the problem could have been the key in the ignition switch...since I have had the bike (14 years)whenever I have started it I take the key out or it falls out as I think in its colorful history the switch has been forced probably an attempt at theft. once or twice in the past the bike has cut out while I have been riding it but when I`ve put the key back in and wiggled it the ignition light has come back on, anyway I have ordered a new one and will see what happens, so possibly this could solve it I will let you know
