Hi Guys
Need some help and advice,i have got a oil leak at the bottom of the barrels,
thought it was base gasket so striped top end down, dont think base gasket had leaked, so rebuilt top end with new gaskets and still leaking. My question is there anywhere else it could be leaking from, at the front of the engine near base gasket. thanks neil

Should be good then mate, sometimes its hard to tell prime suspect is the large slug shaped o ring between the head and barrels it leaks out the front near to tacho drive which itself can leak, repro o rings nearly always leak they are half thickness of original, talc can sometimes be used to race where oil leaks originate from..Paul J

Are you sure the collars on the extreme edge of the upper crankcase aren't too long and not allowing the barrel to be clamped down fully?

everything is dry at head gasket and tacho drive, the only place where oil is on the engine mount shelf near base gasket.

Just a thought make sure head nuts are not bottoming out internally before you have fully torqued head! what are you torqueing down to mate?

Seems like the forum has covered everthing.... What the heck is an "Engine mount shelf"?
If you are talking about the front right hand triangular bracket, then it's possible it's coming from higher up.... I've even seen Brake oil fall onto this bracket!

i found an oil leak that looked like it was the base gasket, tried just about everything to stop it,finally found out it was the gasket on the alternater cover that was at fault.you never know,it could just be that.
