Anyone found a good& more importantly, CHEAP source for those little springs holding the advance bob weights? Please reveal to the awaiting masses!!!!! Mine are a bit sloppy.... the advance is set at around 35 degs and runs good flat out... but seems to advance too quick and pinks under load on lower revs!!!! Had to back timing off to allow for weak springs. Running full Dyna ignition & Wiseco.

Feck. They need to have the correct tension rate too. What about Zpower or have you tried the shops?

Hello Pigford, I dont think I would trust substitute springs, they are not available from Kawasaki, buy a new Genuine advance unit, they are not cheap but pinking will eventually cost you more! I would not even trust a second hand advancer on my own bike, replace it every few years as the springs get tired and the bob weights start to flap about, bad ignition timing is a common cause of engine damage , just my 2p's worth

Don't worry tho' mate, will still buy you tea & biscuits (just not chocky ones). ;) Truth be told... you did me a great favour! Cheers.

Measure the wire guage, number of turns, diameter of spring, end fittings and look in yellow pages for "Spring manufacturers" either get them to make you some (sell the extras on here to offset costs) or blag some wire of the correct guage bend your own and heat at 250 deg c for 1/2 hour in the oven on a baking tray to temper. They're not usually made of spring steel anymore and don't need tempering by the old silver sand method - that's why when you try to remake a modern spring and anneal it they are bolloxed. You will have to make a smaller former, wind the wire around and experiment untill you get the correct diameter when the wire is relaxed, correct number of turns then form the ends, temper in oven and try - the spring tension is set by the guage of wire.
Alternatively do dyna 2000 use a mechanical advance or is it programmed?

Rich... cheers mate... very informing!!! The Dyna 2000 has a programable system (got one on me Gixxer), which don't use mechanical advance! Me Dyna S uses the weights for advance control!!! Will try your method.. whats the oven heat for gas.. or even better, how long, what setting in me microwave ??? (only kidding?!)
