How much should it cost to get new seats and guides fitted to a head?
Are there any benefits to getting bronze liners fitted to the existing guides?

Try Sepp at Kegworth, they will fit insert guides to your existing ones work fine, their work is always good and you can courier it to them,i got a very low miles from the states for £200 ish complete with cams etc,or you could give DK at newcastle under lyme a bell,i know guys on here berate them but their Jap engine spares room is huge, all the stuff i have had from them is fine,or put a wanted on here, waht exactly is wrong with your head?...Cheers Paul J

Cheers Paul, I problem is low comp. When i pulled the head off and poured petrol down the ports the exhaust was ok but the intake was pissing out.
I gave the head to John Wyatt, a reputable, local Jap bike restorer. He says the head needs everything. Stems, Guides, Springs, Shell bearings as well as the seats recutting, or more likely, replacing. I reckon the bits alone come to £250 ish alone.
I will follow your advise and advertise for a new head to hedge my bets.
Cheers Dave T

If you want to do a proper job you have to bite the bullet and pay the price.

I agree John, the question is what is the right price for a top job and when does it become uneconomical?

How are the valve clearances? If you are having to tip the valves to get clearance you need new seats, if not just have them re-cut.

This is not a cheap option but in my opinion it's worth spending the money, motor runs soooo much better now
Not sure about the bronze valve guide liners. I used genuine Kawasaki replacements.
