Hi all, this is not about my Z900 or any of my bikes. It's a Suzuki AY50 Katana scooter(1999). It's been stood in a dining room for 4 years at least but started when carb cleaned. Ok i know it's not even a bike. It's the step daughters! I've acquired it, and depending if i can get it working i can make an offer for it. So on to the problem. Electrickery, my worst nightmare.
Right handlebar, starter and headlights, instrument panel, don't do anything. Left handlebar, indicators and horn work. New battery, and motor will run if kicked over.
I know bugger all about scooters and electrics give me nightmares. So any help or offers of assistance greatly accepted.
Cheers people.

Been wiring bikes for years (27 to be specific) and doesn't sound like an earth problem.... more a switched live problem.
With Suzuki, it's normally an orange/red wire that goes to the RH handlebar switch and the console.
Check fuses, check also fusebox terminals and all multipin connection block terminals are free from corrosion. The orange/red wire should have 12v with the ignition switched in the ON position.

I don't know anything about this one, AY50 Katana scooter(1999) but i will give it a go...
most of the time, it's when a bike has been stood, follow the wiring from the right hand switch and if there's a plug, pull it apart, and spray some WD40, ON BOTH PARTS, then plug it back together, then try that? If no joy? run a wire from the battery, to the right hand switch, then try that ...
the wiring might go to the clocks, and there night be a plug in there? Check the bulbs too. good luck...

Cheers All.
firstly there seems to be only one fuse, located on positve side of battery and it's ok. All plugs and connectors seem good, there's not many. Switch from starter for example has 2 wires and goes straight to the loom. Same for other switches. There is a little silver finned box in the front body work area that has a large connector and has a 'live' 12v feed, ignition on/off and it receives 12v. Could this be the problem.
I do appreciate all your thoughts on this. I know it's a scooter but it's for a 16yr old girl, 1st step on to 2 wheels. We all started somewhere, mine was a fizzy.
Cheers, Colm.
