Is this right ?

I'm a complete novice at this and I'm trying to work out exactly what I've bought - the numbers make it a KZ1000 B1 LTD, I was told it's had a few tweaks over the years such as the K&N filters, Stage 3 Dynajet and Dynacoils.

The fuel tap, apart from being unbelievably stiff, fouls the top of the carb, is that ever right ?
Image

The tap has two fuel lines by the look of it one going between the first two carbs and the second between 3 and 4. Could it be a non-standard tap or non-standard carbs or are they all like this ?

Any pointers gratefully received :)

Its a tight fit normally but as your bike has the filters fitted you will probably find your carbs have just drop down a little and now the gap is too tight between the carb top and tap. As for the tap being stiff you can buy a recondition kit which should sort out the problem. Try Z Power or Z Supplies.

Looks like you have got a fuel tap from a different kwak on there. As I thought all z1 - z1000 1977 had a double pipe going straight out the back. You can loosen the tap rotate slightly and re tighten, maybe able to get a bit better clearance.

I'd say that was the wrong tap also.

looks like the carbs have dropped a bit from lack of support at the throat as well

Cheers chaps, I did wonder about the tap not being right. Unlikely then that I'll identify where the tap came from in order to get a repair kit for it.

Tap looks similar to the one on my 77 Ltd - my tap has two parallel outlets on the back.

I had somewhere near a 5mm gap between the lever and the carb, I seem to remember the tap was not exactly parallel to the tank edge - the gap between the tank and carb tops was not so big however mines running a standard air box set up.

your tap is wrong it should have one outlet on the right side of the tap + the other pointing to no 4 carb. also check the front fuel tank mounting rubbers + the ones on the frame tubes

I think it's what's confused me is that it does look like the right tap from what little I've been able to see in service manual pictures but I'm glad I asked now before I shelled out on a repair kit and found it was useless.
Replacement taps seem a bit expensive though £75 on z-power

Tap looks correct to me? ( for z900) One pipe forward and one out the back as opposed to the Z1 which has two out the back.
As above...I'd have a look at the front tank rubbers? It's almost like the tank is to far forwards?

Tap looks right to me for a KZ1000 Ltd but we seem to be in the minority here.

The tap is correct, it'll be all down to the unsupported carbs, they've obviously dropped back quite away. Checking the tank rubbers isn't a bad shout though.
Slacken the inlet rubbers push the carbs in fully, hold them in and up and tighten fully and preferably fit a support bracket.

surely even if the tap isn't exactly "model correct", it's still gonna be in the same place

One would think so.

I take these engineering problems far too seriously.

Have you considered moving the engine forward in the frame??

Glad to have been of assistance.
